This photograph was taken at the Tasman Glacier in New Zealand. It shows a rocky barren landscape with only a sparse layer of vegetation on the hills in the background. The hills are obviously subject to erosion and landslides. It is a fine clear day in early autumn (March 2005) and one would expect this area to be covered in snow in mid-winter.
